The play is adapted from Tong Hua's novel of the same name. In the Great Wilderness, people, gods, and monsters live together, and the three kingdoms of Xiyan, Chenrong, and Haoling stand side by side. After a hundred years of hardships, the Haoling King Ji Jiuyao (Xiaoyao) who was exiled to the Great Wilderness not only lost his identity but also his appearance. He settled in Qingshui Town and became Wen Xiaoliu, who "had nowhere to go, no one to rely on, and no way to protect himself." He made a living by practicing pot and was unrestrained. Sun Xuanxuan, the king of Xiyan, who had been a childhood sweetheart with Xiaoyao, went to the Haoling Kingdom as a hostage. Even though he lived under someone else's roof and endured dormancy, he traveled all over the Great Wilderness to find Xiaoyao and came to Qingshui Town. The days in Qingshui Town were plain and warm. Wen Xiaoliu accidentally saved the dying Qingqiu Prince Tu Shanjing, and the two gradually fell in love with each other as they spent time together day and night; Wen Xiaoliu and the nine-headed monster Xiangliu did not know each other, and they became close friends because of mutual appreciation. Wen Xiaoliu and Dixuan did not know each other when they met. After many twists and turns, she finally recognized Dixuan and restored her status as a princess. In order to unify the world, Dixuan gave up her personal feelings for the throne. After Xiangliu Shouyi died in battle and Xiaoyao helped Dixuan complete his great cause, he and Tushan Jing retired to the rivers and lakes. Dixuan, who was unable to achieve his goal, put all his energy into governing the country, because he knew that as long as the world was peaceful, his Xiaoyao would be happy and healthy.
