Wukong and Erlang showed their magical powers and fought endlessly, but neither of them won. Taishang Laojun threw down the diamond ring from the sky and knocked Wukong down. The Jade Emperor ordered the heavenly soldiers to take Wukong to the demon-slaying platform, where he was chopped by knives and axes, struck by thunder and burned by fire, but he was not hurt at all. The immortals offered advice, and Taishang Laojun took Wukong back to the Tushita Palace and put him into the Eight Trigrams Furnace, where he was refined with the Three Flames of True Fire. Unexpectedly, after forty-nine days, the Monkey King still jumped out of the furnace lively and had a pair of golden eyes. In a rage, he attacked the Lingxiao Palace.
